Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Electronic Toll Collection System
Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) is an advanced barrier-free electronic toll collection system designed to enable seamless vehicle movement through tolling points without requiring vehicles to stop at conventional toll booths or physical barriers.
The system integrates multiple intelligent technologies including RFID/FASTag, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Radar, LiDAR and automatic vehicle classification. These technologies work together to detect, identify, classify and process vehicles travelling through the MLFF tolling zone in real time.
Technovaa's MLFF solution provides a centralized and integrated platform for hardware communication, transaction processing, vehicle identification, toll calculation, enforcement, monitoring and reporting. The architecture is designed to support secure, scalable and reliable highway tolling operations.
Technovaa Multi-Lane Free Flow System Integrates the Following Technologies and Subsystems:
- Radar – Vehicle Detection, Tracking and Speed Measurement
- LiDAR – 3D Vehicle Detection and Classification
- ANPR – Automatic Number Plate Recognition
- RFID / FASTag – Electronic Vehicle and Tag Identification
- AVC – Automatic Vehicle Classification
- Image Capture – Vehicle and Transaction Evidence
- MLFF Middleware – Hardware Integration and Data Processing
- REST API – Secure Real-Time Data Exchange and Integration
- Central Tolling System – Transaction Processing and Management
- MLFF Dashboard – Real-Time Monitoring, Analytics and Reporting
How the MLFF System Works
When a vehicle enters the MLFF tolling zone, the integrated detection system identifies and tracks the vehicle across multiple lanes. Radar and LiDAR sensors detect the vehicle's movement, position and characteristics, while the ANPR camera captures the vehicle registration number and the RFID reader identifies the associated FASTag.
Data collected from all field devices is transmitted to the Technovaa MLFF Middleware, where information from different sensors is synchronized, normalized and correlated into a single vehicle transaction. The system then performs vehicle classification, validation and transaction processing before securely transmitting the information to the central tolling platform through APIs.
The MLFF dashboard provides operators with real-time visibility of vehicle movements, toll transactions, device health, alerts, traffic statistics and system performance. This enables efficient operation and centralized management of the complete MLFF infrastructure.
